Metso grows slurry handling portfolio with Q&R acquisition
- 16 September 2025
Internationally respected Australian manufacturer Q&R Industrial Hoses has started “an exciting new chapter” with its acquisition by Metso, according to management.
Australia’s oldest locally-owned hose manufacturer, 50-year-old Q&R’s ABISCO materials handling hose, couplings and gaskets are well known in the mining and quarry industries.
“Our expertise in specialty swivel hoses will complement Metso’s slurry handling solutions,” says Q&A general manager and owner, Brett Robinson.
“We are delighted to become part of the Metso family and look forward to working together to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions to the mining and minerals sectors.”
For Metso, one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of mineral processing equipment, the Q&R acquisition follows last year’s purchase of Australian valve and process control company, Jindex, and adds to its comprehensive, end-to-end slurry handling solutions and services. Metso’s equipment offering includes slurry pumps, pipes, hoses, valves and hydrocyclones.
The company has globalised its slurry hose supply chain in recent years and says it now has an extensive slurry handling manufacturing and service centre presence close to key mining markets.
“We have had a long relationship with Q&R, which has served Metso as a critical rubber parts manufacturing partner,” says Christian Trulsson, Metso director, valves and hoses.
“Slurry hoses and pinch valve sleeves manufacturing are now being brought in-house, which will improve both our product range and customer service capability throughout the value chain. We can offer even more robust and reliable slurry handling solutions tailored to the needs of the mining and minerals sectors.”
The Q&R acquisition is expected to be closed during the fourth quarter of 2025.
