A chemist by training, Dr. Steukers brings more than two decades of experience in the metals and mining sector, with deep expertise in public policy, sustainability, regulatory affairs, chemical management, and industry advocacy. Prior to becoming President, she served as the Nickel Institute’s Director of Public Policy & Sustainability, where she played a leading role in addressing environmental, climate, and regulatory issues affecting the industry worldwide.
Before her appointment as President, Dr. Steukers spent more than 12 years in senior leadership roles within the Nickel Institute, helping guide the organization's work on sustainability frameworks, carbon footprint methodologies, responsible sourcing, and global public policy engagement.
As President of the Nickel Institute, Dr. Steukers leads international efforts to advance understanding of nickel's critical role in stainless steel, battery technologies, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, recycling, and the low-carbon transition. She is a recognized advocate for sustainable mining, circular economy principles, and responsible critical minerals supply chains.
