Since joining Appian in 2019 as CEO of Appian Capital Brazil, Paulo has restarted South America's only nickel sulphide operation, delivered the first mining enterprise in the state of Alagoas ahead of schedule and under budget during COVID-19, built a new integrated graphite venture from mine to customer, and led the exit of nickel and copper assets valued at a combined US$1 billion. Earlier in his career he served as CEO of Guinea Alumina Corporation, Deputy CEO and CFO of CEMIG, and spent over 20 years at Anglo American plc, including as CEO of Iron Ore Brazil delivering the US$10 billion-plus Minas-Rio project.
